META Connect 2024

META Connect 2024, September 25-26 Event

Meta Connect 2024 has just wrapped up. The event was packed with exciting news about Meta’s latest hardware releases and AI innovations. From a new Quest 3S VR headset to advanced AI features, a new Llama model, and a sneak peek at the Orion augmented reality glasses. Meta is pushing the boundaries of immersive tech. CEO Mark Zuckerberg also demonstrated live translation capabilities, showcasing Meta’s commitment to making technology more accessible. Let’s dive into the biggest announcements from Meta Connect 2024.

Orion AR Glasses: Augmented Reality Meets Style

One of the standout announcements was Meta’s introduction of the Orion augmented reality (AR) glasses. These sleek, trendy frames come with powerful technology hidden inside. Orion uses Micro LED projectors to beam images in front of your eyes via waveguides in the lenses. What makes Orion unique is its ability to leverage generative AI. This allows users to interact with augmented visuals, such as labels over objects or ingredients in real life.

Orion pairs with a wireless compute puck and a neural wristband that responds to hand gestures, offering a more immersive AR experience. Although these glasses aren’t available for purchase yet, they offer a promising glimpse into the future of AR technology.

Meta Quest 3 Lite: Bringing Advanced VR to Everyone

The Meta Quest 3 Lite, also referred to as the Quest 3S, is a game-changer in the VR landscape. By offering the powerful performance of the Quest 3 at a more accessible price point, this headset is set to open the doors to virtual reality for more people than ever before. Designed to provide a high-quality VR experience without the premium cost, the Quest 3 Lite is ideal for businesses, private owners, and small companies looking to explore the potential of VR.

Key features include:

  • Comfortable Design: About 20% slimmer than the Quest 2, making it more comfortable for long sessions while still maintaining a robust build.

  • Performance: Equipped with the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, providing the same high-end processing power found in the Quest 3.

  • Mixed Reality: Full-color mixed reality capabilities that offer immersive experiences for both work and play.

New Llama Model with Visual Processing

Meta’s new Llama model has received a significant upgrade: the ability to process visuals. Llama 3.2 is poised to reach more people than ever before and enable exciting new use cases.  This development brings Meta’s AI model closer to competing platforms offering visual processing.

The new Llama version is designed for mobile and comes in smaller, more efficient packages, allowing users to leverage the power of AI in a more compact form. This improvement is a major step forward for Meta as it seeks to enhance its AI capabilities across multiple platforms.
